Art everywhere you look. Brightly illuminated by thousands of lights, the pedestrian zone is given over to artists, commercial businesses and individual sellers, and restaurateurs enticing visitors to come and enjoy Murnau's KunstNacht. On this night, the modest town is transformed into one huge art gallery. There is scarcely a shop front not designed by artists from the region. Countless attractions provide an irresistible temptation for sightseers to linger and gaze. On the very same night, the museum in a castle, the Schloßmuseum Murnau, and the galleries of Murnau throw open their doors and take you on an artistic excursion. And the town's bars and restaurants resound to the music of local, national and international bands.
The Murnauer KunstNacht has, for years, been regarded as one of the outstanding cultural events to be staged in the foothills of the Alps. Just once a year, until long after midnight on the 2nd to 3rd of October, the pedestrian zone, galleries, bars and restaurants and the Schloßmuseum Murnau, museum in a castle, are transformed into a stage for live music, the enjoyment of the arts as well as spectacular culinary delights to tempt the palate. Because food and refreshments are, of course, on hand too: specialities prepared by the Staffelsee Lake Innkeepers, Kaffeehaus Krönner and China Fassl. The tastes and flavours on offer know no bounds – in keeping with the artistic performances themselves.
