In the literary and biographical tracks of Horváth

Author and poet Ödön von Horváth lived in his parent's house in Murnau from 1924 to 1933. There, he wrote works that are now recognised as world-renowned literature. In short excerpts dealing with the Blue Land region, Dr. Fritz Wambsganz will take you on a literary tour of the world of this famous poet . Embark on a search for tracks: Head out from his family's house and stop at the numerous stations leading up to the Schloßmuseum Murnau, a museum in a castle with an exhibit dedicated to Horváth and his literature. On the way, you can witness how the author and poet cherished his country and people and yet was increasingly harassed by the Nazis.

In the footsteps of Gabriele Münter

Embark on a journey through time: into the early 20th Century. That is when artist Gabriele Münter and her life partner, Wassily Kandinsky, came to the Blue Land to settle down in Murnau. There, she purchased the small colourful house with the specially shaped hip roof and the exquisite garden – the goal of your search for tracks. Before that, you can visit numerous other stations where the painter created her works of art, thereby getting glimpses of her life and work at the original locations.

Art history walk

It is not a long way from the Medieval market of Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria to the cradle of Expressionism, namely the Blue Rider group – at least not in terms of meters walked. That is because all of this took place in the small municipality of Murnau, which is filled with history and stories. The houses and villas, castles and churches all relate these stories back to us.
