: Information on Murnau
Murnau rises terrace-like above the nature reserve "Murnauer Moos" and the three warmest lakes of Upper Bavaria. Imagine standing on a lookout and admiring the panorama of the Bavarian Alps.
Picturesque corners and narrow alleyways inspired world-famous paintings by Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter who lived together in the Münter-Haus between 1909 and 1914. The Schloßmuseum has its focus on the artists of the "Blue Rider", but also documents local history, exhibits an international behind-glass painting collection and recalls the 10 years the author Ödön von Horváth lived in Murnau.
A gem of Baroque church architecture hides beneath the onion tower of the parish church St. Nikolaus.
The Munich art nouveau architect Emanuel von Seidl designed the facades of the houses lining the pedestrian mall with the town hall, today under protection of historic buildings.
Small restaurants, cafes, boutiques and international visitors give Murnau its special flair. Five minutes away is the Cultural and Convention Center with a park - excellent venue for concerts, theatre, conferences, congresses and exhibitions.
